What to Expect
Session 1: The Lay of the Land
Breast cancer has a way of changing life overnight. We'll start by getting oriented: common caregiver experiences, the challenges that often catch people off guard, and how the role of partner, spouse, son, or caregiver can shift over time. You'll leave with a clearer understanding of what many caregivers face—and where you fit into the picture.
Session 2: Communication, Support, and What Actually Helps
This session focuses on the practical realities of supporting someone through breast cancer. We'll talk about communication, uncertainty, changing needs, and the moments when you genuinely don't know what to do. Together, we'll explore what support often looks like in real life—not just in theory.
Session 3: Carrying the Load Without Carrying It Alone
Many people assume things get easier once a treatment plan is in place—or even when treatment ends. Often, the questions simply change. We'll talk about ongoing worry, relationship changes, adapting to a new normal, and finding your footing when there isn't a clear roadmap. We'll also reflect on what you've learned and where you want support moving forward.
Why I Created this Series
As a social worker, patient navigator, breast cancer survivor, and caregiver myself, I've spent years supporting individuals and families through diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, and recurrence.
Over the years, I've noticed: caregivers are often expected to figure it out as they go. They carry tremendous responsibility, but rarely have a place to ask questions, hear how others are navigating similar challenges, and learn from people who understand what this experience is like firsthand.
I created this series to help fill that gap.
I really hope you’ll join us,
~ Kerstin
